Free Tool
Furigana Generator
Paste Japanese text and instantly add readings above every kanji. Pick hiragana, katakana, or romaji.
How the furigana generator works
We tokenize your Japanese text with kuromoji — the same open-source morphological analyzer used by major Japanese NLP tools — then attach the most common reading for every kanji using <ruby> tags. Everything runs in your browser, so your text is never sent to a server.
Tips
- The first run loads ~5 MB of dictionary files (cached after).
- Choose romaji for materials aimed at total beginners.
- Choose katakana when designing materials for older textbooks.
- Names and obscure compounds may use less common readings — proofread before publishing.
