Assign this video to your class
InputDojo imports the same YouTube video into a lookup-enabled study lesson. Students see instant translations; you see who watched and what they struggled with.
Try the teacher platformHow it rates a video
Paste a YouTube link and the tool fetches the video’s captions, works out what language they are in, and checks every word against a vocabulary list: JLPT N5–N1 for Japanese, HSK 1–9 for Chinese, CEFR A1–C2 for English. The level shown is that of the 90th-percentile word, so a few rare words don’t decide the rating on their own.
It needs captions to work. A video without captions, or with captions turned off, can’t be rated.
What the rating leaves out
The rating is about vocabulary. How fast people speak, accents and background noise all make listening harder, and none of them are in the captions. A video rated at your level with fast, casual speech can still be a stretch, so use the rating to shortlist videos, then try a minute before committing.
