HSK 1
哪 M N
nǎ M N
which N
Structure
哪 (nǎ) + Measure Word + Noun
How it works
To ask 'which' in Chinese, you use '哪' (nǎ) followed by a measure word and a noun. If the measure word is omitted in casual speech, it is usually because the noun itself acts as a measure word (like '天' or '国').
Examples
哪本书是你的?
Nǎ běn shū shì nǐ de?
Which book is yours?
你是哪国人?
Nǐ shì nǎ guó rén?
Which country are you from?
你想买哪个?
Nǐ xiǎng mǎi nǎ ge?
Which one do you want to buy?
Common mistakes
Forgetting the measure word between '哪' and the noun (e.g., saying '哪书' instead of '哪本书').
Tip
If you are unsure which specific measure word to use, '个' (ge) is often acceptable as a general substitute in HSK 1 level conversations.
