Frequently asked questions
I understand the words but lose the sentence. Why?
German holds the verb to the end of subordinate clauses, so you must keep the clause open in working memory until it arrives. That capacity is built by volume, and reading transcripts of speech you have already heard builds it faster than listening alone.
What if there is no transcript?
It is still listening practice, but for vocabulary building choose shows that publish one. The difference in progress is substantial.
When can I move to native podcasts?
Around B1 for slow, single-speaker shows. Panel discussions with several speakers talking over each other are B2 and beyond.
