Italian cinema is the reason a lot of people study Italian at all, and a film has an advantage over a series for study purposes: it is finite. Two hours of dialogue is a complete, self-contained body of vocabulary you can mine thoroughly, rewatch, and be done with — rather than an open-ended commitment to six seasons.

A closed set of vocabulary
One film is a bounded text. You can mine it completely, which is satisfying in a way an endless series is not.
Rewatching is normal
Nobody rewatches a whole series for study, but people rewatch films they love. That repetition is where the listening gain sits.

Frequently asked questions
Are old Italian films harder than new ones?
The vocabulary is more dated but the audio is usually clearer, because much of it was recorded in a studio after filming. For listening practice that trade is often worth taking.
Should I watch the film first or read the subtitles first?
Watch first, with Italian subtitles on, and accept that you will miss a lot. Then mine the file. Reading first spoils the plot and removes the incentive to listen hard.
How many words should I save from a film?
Twenty to forty across the whole film, not per scene. Saving everything produces a review queue you will abandon within a week.
