How it works
予以 is a formal, written verb used to indicate the application of an action toward a specific target. It is almost always followed by a disyllabic (two-character) abstract noun that functions as the action being performed.
Examples
对于他的杰出贡献，政府予以了高度评价。
Duìyú tā de jiéchū gòngxiàn, zhèngfǔ yǔyǐ le gāodù píngjià.
The government gave a high appraisal of his outstanding contributions.
对违法乱纪行为，必须依法予以严惩。
Duì wéi fǎ luàn jì xíngwéi, bìxū yīfǎ yǔyǐ yánchéng.

Common mistakes
Using 予以 with monosyllabic nouns or concrete physical objects (e.g., saying '予以钱' instead of '予以资助').
Tip
Substitute 予以 with '给予' (jǐyǔ) to check the meaning, but remember that 予以 is more formal and strictly requires a two-character abstract noun following it.
