HSK 7-9

凡……(者),均(可)……

fán...(zhě), jūn (kě)...

All those who..., can/will... (formal)

Structure

凡 + Condition/Group + (者),均 + (可/应/是) + Result/Verb

How it works

This formal construction is commonly used in legal documents, academic writing, or official notices to state a universal rule or condition. '凡' functions as 'every' or 'all', '者' acts as a nominalizer (those who/the things that), and '均' is a formal synonym for '都' (all/without exception).

Examples

凡年满十八周岁者,均有权参加选举。

Fán niánmǎn shíbā zhōusuì zhě, jūn yǒuquán cānjiā xuǎnjǔ.

All those who have reached the age of eighteen have the right to participate in elections.

凡本校师生,均可凭证件免费进入图书馆。

Fán běnxiào shīshēng, jūn kě píng zhèngjiàn miǎnfèi jìnrù túshūguǎn.

All teachers and students of this school can enter the library for free with their ID cards.

凡符合上述条件者,均可申请该项奖学金。

Fán fúhé shàngshù tiáojiàn zhě, jūn kě shēnqǐng gāixiàng jiǎngxuéjīn.

All those who meet the aforementioned conditions may apply for this scholarship.

Common mistakes

Using this structure in casual, spoken conversation; it is highly formal and sounds unnatural in daily speech where '只要...都' would be more appropriate.

Tip

The '者' is optional if the subject is already a clear noun phrase (like 'teachers and students'), but it is required if the preceding part is a verb phrase or a clause describing a type of person.
