HSK 1
去 PLACE V
qù PLACE V
go to PLACE to do V
Structure
Subject + 去 + Place + Verb / Verb Phrase
How it works
This structure is used to express the purpose of going to a specific location. The first verb '去' (to go) is followed by the destination, and the second verb (or verb phrase) indicates the action intended to be performed there.
Examples
我去中国学习汉语。
Wǒ qù Zhōngguó xuéxí Hànyǔ.
I go to China to study Chinese.
他们去商店买水果。
Tāmen qù shāngdiàn mǎi shuǐguǒ.
They go to the store to buy fruit.
我们要去饭馆吃饭。
Wǒmen yào qù fànguǎn chīfàn.
Wait/We want to go to the restaurant to eat.
Common mistakes
Placement of the place: Students often put the verb before the place (e.g., *我去学习学校*), which is incorrect in Chinese.
Tip
Think of this as a chronological order of events: first you go to the place, then you do the activity.
