这不
zhè bù
See? Look!; Here it is
Structure
这不 + (Subject) + Verb/Adjective Phrase
How it works
The phrase '这不' is a colloquial expression used to draw the listener's attention to a fact, a result, or an object that is currently present or obvious. It often implies 'as you can see' or 'didn't I tell you?' and is frequently used to justify a situation or show that something has arrived or happened.
Examples
你找了半天的钥匙,这不就在桌子上吗?
Nǐ zhǎo le bàntiān de yàoshi, zhè bù jiù zài zhuōzi shàng ma?
You've been looking for your keys for ages; look, aren't they right here on the table?
我正要去找你,这不,你自己倒来了。
Wǒ zhèngyào qù zhǎo nǐ, zhè bù, nǐ zìjǐ dào lái le.
I was just about to go look for you, and see, you've come here yourself.
你说想吃红烧肉,这不,我给你做了。
Nǐ shuō xiǎng chī hóngshāoròu, zhè bù, wǒ gěi nǐ zuò le.
You said you wanted braised pork; well, here it is, I've made it for you.
Common mistakes
Do not confuse this with the literal meaning 'this is not' (这不是). When used as a discourse marker, '这不' does not actually function as a negative; it acts as an emphatic 'see' or 'as expected'.
Tip
Think of '这不' as a way to say 'Voila!' or 'Lo and behold.' It is almost always used in spoken Chinese to point out something that should now be obvious to the listener.
