HSK 1
N 呢?
N ne?
where is N
Structure
Noun / Pronoun + 呢?
How it works
The particle '呢' (ne) can be used after a noun or pronoun to create a short question. When the context is about someone or something missing, it is used to ask 'where is...?'
Examples
我的书呢?
Wǒ de shū ne?
Where is my book?
妈妈呢?
Māma ne?
Where is Mom?
你的猫呢?
Nǐ de māo ne?
Where is your cat?
Common mistakes
Don't use '呢' if you are already using a question word like '在哪儿' (zài nǎr); choose one or the other.
Tip
Think of this as the 'shorthand' way to ask where something is when you are looking for it urgently.
