HSK 3
V 来/去 O
V lái/ qù O
(complements of direction)
Structure
Verb + 来 / 去 + Object OR Verb + Object + 来 / 去
How it works
This structure uses '来' (lái - to come) and '去' (qù - to go) as directional complements to indicate the direction of an action relative to the speaker. If the object (O) is a thing, it can be placed either before or after '来/去'.
Examples
明天要带来作业。
Míngtiān yào dài lái zuòyè.
Bring your homework tomorrow.
我带去了一本书。
Wǒ dài qù le yī běn shū.
I took a book there.
请拿来那支笔。
Qǐng ná lái nà zhī bǐ.
Please bring that pen over here.
Common mistakes
If the object is a place (like home or school), it MUST be placed before '来' or '去', not after.
Tip
Think of '来' as movement towards the speaker and '去' as movement away from the speaker.
