JLPT N4

~ていただけませんか

Could you please...?

Structure

Verb て-form + いただけませんか

How it works

Use this grammar point when making a polite request, especially to someone of higher status or when you want to be extra deferential. It asks if the listener would be able to do something for you.

Examples

少々お待ちいただけませんか。

Could you please wait a moment?

Common mistakes

Using it with close friends or family, where a simpler '~てください' would be more natural.

Tip

Remember that 'いただく' is the humble form of 'もらう' (to receive), so it implies 'would you do me the favor of doing...'.
