JLPT N4

~てほしい

Want someone to ~

Structure

Verb て-form + ほしい

How it works

This expresses the speaker's desire for someone else to perform an action. It's used when you want a third party to do something.

Examples

私に本当のことを話してほしい。

I want you to tell me the truth.

Common mistakes

Using it for one's own actions instead of 〜たい.

Tip

Remember ほしい means 'to want', and the て-form connects the desire to another's action.
