JLPT N4

~といいです

It would be good if... (Hope/Wish)

Structure

Plain form of Verb/い-Adj/な-Adj + といいです; Noun + だ + といいです

How it works

This structure is used to express a wish, hope, or desire for something to happen or for a certain state to exist. It suggests that a positive outcome would be desirable.

Examples

明日、晴れるといいですね。

I hope it's sunny tomorrow.

Common mistakes

Confusing it with '~たほうがいい' (had better do), which is advice for action, not a wish.

Tip

Think of the 'と' as a conditional 'if', leading to 'it's good'.
