Literary and classical residue
The remaining patterns are largely written-register and carry traces of classical Chinese: 之, 其, 所, 以及 and the formal connectives built from them. They are common in editorials and formal writing and rare in speech, so they are acquired by reading published prose rather than by conversation.
The exam is about speed
HSK 6 gives you a large volume of text and not much time. Candidates who fail rarely do so because they did not recognise a structure; they run out of time. That makes reading speed the thing worth training, and reading speed comes from having read a lot, not from having reviewed the list again.
