……好吗?

…… hǎo ma?

…okay?

Structure

Statement + 好吗?

How it works

The phrase '……好吗?' is a common tag question used to ask for someone's opinion, permission, or to make a suggestion. It is placed at the end of a declarative sentence to transform it into a polite request.

Examples

我们晚上去吃中国菜,好吗?

Wǒmen wǎnshàng qù chī Zhōngguó cài, hǎo ma?

Let's go eat Chinese food tonight, okay?

请你帮我买一瓶水,好吗?

Qǐng nǐ bāng wǒ mǎi yì píng shuǐ, hǎo ma?

Please help me buy a bottle of water, okay?

你看完书以后给我,好吗?

Nǐ kàn wán shū yǐhòu gěi wǒ, hǎo ma?

Give it to me after you finish reading the book, okay?

Common mistakes

Don't confuse '好吗' with '你好吗'. While '你好吗' is a greeting (How are you?), '……好吗' is specifically used to seek agreement for a proposal.

Tip

To answer positively, you can say '好' (hǎo) or '好的' (hǎo de). To decline politely, you should provide a reason instead of just saying '不好'.
