HSK 2

从 N1 到 N2

cóng N1 dào N2

from N1 to N2

Structure

从 + Point A (Time/Place/N) + 到 + Point B (Time/Place/N)

How it works

This structure is used to indicate a range in time, space, or category. While 'cóng' indicates the starting point, 'dào' indicates the destination or end point. It is often used with the word 'dōu' (all) to emphasize that everything within that range is included.

Examples

从北京到上海要坐五个小时的高铁。

Cóng Běijīng dào Shànghǎi yào zuò wǔ gè xiǎoshí de gāotiě.

From Beijing to Shanghai, it takes five hours by high-speed train.

我从周一到周五都在公司工作。

Wǒ cóng zhōuyī dào zhōuwǔ dōu zài gōngsī gōngzuò.

I work at the company from Monday to Friday.

从家到学校不太远。

Cóng jiā dào xuéxiào bú tài yuǎn.

It's not too far from home to school.

Common mistakes

Forgetting to include 'dào' when expressing a range, or swapping the order of the starting and ending points.

Tip

Think of 'cóng' as the 'start' button and 'dào' as the 'finish' line; they work as a pair to define the boundaries of your sentence.
