HSK 2
再 V
zài V
again
Structure
Subject + 再 + Verb + (Object)
How it works
The adverb '再' (zài) is used before a verb to indicate that an action will happen again or be repeated in the future. It differs from '又' (yòu), which is typically used for actions that have already repeated in the past.
Examples
请再说一遍。
Qǐng zài shuō yí biàn.
Please say it again.
我想再喝一杯咖啡。
Wǒ xiǎng zài hē yì bēi kāfēi.
I want to drink another cup of coffee.
我们明天再看电影吧。
Wǒmen míngtiān zài kàn diànyǐng ba.
Let's watch a movie again tomorrow.
Common mistakes
Mixing up '再' with '又'. Use '再' for future repetitions (I will go again) and '又' for past repetitions (I went again).
Tip
Think of '再' as 'another' or 'once more' for things that haven't happened yet.
