HSK 3

对 N 没兴趣

duì N méi xìngqù

not interested in N

Structure

Subject + 对 + Object (Noun/Topic) + 没兴趣

How it works

This structure is used to express a lack of interest in a specific person, activity, or topic. In Chinese, the preposition '对' (duì) is used to introduce the target of the interest, followed by the negative phrase '没兴趣' (méi xìngqù).

Examples

小王对体育运动没兴趣。

Xiǎowáng duì tǐyù yùndòng méi xìngqù.

Xiao Wang is not interested in sports.

我对历史书没兴趣。

Wǒ duì lìshǐ shū méi xìngqù.

I am not interested in history books.

我对他说的那个工作没兴趣。

Wǒ duì tā shuō de nàge gōngzuò méi xìngqù.

I am not interested in that job he mentioned.

Common mistakes

English speakers often say '我不兴趣...' which is incorrect; you must use '对' to indicate what you are (not) interested in and include the verb '有' (often omitted in negative '没').

Tip

To emphasize the lack of interest, you can add '一点儿' (yī diǎnr) to say '对...一点儿兴趣也没有' (not interested in... at all).
