Structure
Subject + 赶快 + Verb Phrase
How it works
赶快 is an adverb used to indicate that an action should be done immediately or without delay, often implying a sense of urgency. It is frequently used in commands, suggestions, or to describe a subjective feeling of needing to hurry. Unlike 赶快, which focuses on speed in response to a situation, 很快 simply describes the high speed of an action.
Examples
天要下雨了,我们赶快回家吧。
Tiān yào xià yǔ le, wǒmen gǎnkuài huí jiā ba.
It's about to rain; let's hurry home.
既然你身体不舒服,就赶快去医院看看。
Jìrán nǐ shēntǐ bù shūfu, jiù gǎnkuài qù yīyuàn kànkan.
Since you don't feel well, you should go to the hospital immediately.
时间不早了,赶快把作业写完吧。
Shíjiān bù zǎo le, gǎnkuài bǎ zuòyè xiě wán ba.
It's getting late; finish your homework quickly.
Common mistakes
Do not use '赶快' to describe the inherent speed of a past event (e.g., 'He ran quickly'); use '快' or '很快' instead. '赶快' is for urgent future or immediate actions.
Tip
Think of '赶快' as 'hurry up and...' It is most common in imperative sentences where someone is giving an order or a strong suggestion.
