V 得 A

V dé A

(using adverbs)

Structure

Subject + Verb + 得 + (Adverb) + Adjective

How it works

This structure is used to describe or evaluate how an action is performed. The particle '得' links a verb to an adjective (complement of degree) to indicate the manner or outcome of the action.

Examples

她说得很好。

Tā shuō de hěn hǎo.

She speaks very well.

弟弟跳得很高。

Dìdi tiào de hěn gāo.

The younger brother jumps very high.

你写得太快了。

Nǐ xiě de tài kuài le.

You write too fast.

Common mistakes

If the verb has an object, you must repeat the verb (e.g., say '说汉语说得好' instead of '说汉语得好').

Tip

Think of '得' as a bridge that connects the action to its description; it doesn't have a meaning of its own in this context.
