V 得正好

V dé zhènghǎo

V'ed at just the right time

Structure

Verb + 得 + 正好

How it works

This structure is used to indicate that an action or situation has occurred at the perfect or most opportune moment. It combines a verb with the degree complement '得' and the adjective '正好' (just right/coincidentally).

Examples

你来得正好,我们正要开始吃饭呢。

Nǐ lái de zhènghǎo, wǒmen zhèngyào kāishǐ chīfàn ne.

You arrived at just the right time; we are just about to start eating.

这件衣服我穿得正好,不大也不小。

Zhè jiàn yīfu wǒ chuān de zhènghǎo, bú dà yě bù xiǎo.

This piece of clothing fits me perfectly; it's neither too big nor too small.

你这个电话打得正好,我正想找你帮忙。

Nǐ zhège diànhuà dǎ de zhènghǎo, wǒ zhèng xiǎng zhǎo nǐ bāngmáng.

Your call came at the perfect time; I was just looking for your help.

Common mistakes

Do not confuse this with '正好的 + Noun'; when describing the timing of an action, the '得' is required after the verb.

Tip

Think of '正好' as 'coincidentally perfect.' It often implies a lucky coincidence where one action aligns perfectly with another event.
