JLPT N5
も
Also / Too
Structure
Noun も
How it works
The particle 'も' (mo) is used to indicate that something is the same as what was mentioned before. It replaces the particles 'は' (wa), 'が' (ga), or 'を' (o) when used after a noun to mean 'also' or 'too'.
Examples
私も学生です。
I am also a student.
リンゴも買いました。
I bought an apple too.
田中さんはお茶も飲みます。
Mr. Tanaka drinks tea as well.
Common mistakes
Do not use 'は' and 'も' together (e.g., avoid saying '私はも'); the 'も' replaces 'は' entirely.
Tip
Think of 'も' as a replacement for 'は', 'が', and 'を'. However, it is added after particles like 'に' or 'と' (e.g., '日本にも' - also in Japan).
