real
Structure
实际的 + Noun
How it works
The word '实际' (shíjì) functions as an adjective meaning 'actual,' 'real,' or 'practical.' When used with the particle '的' (de), it typically modifies a noun to describe things that exist in reality as opposed to theory, imagination, or advertisements.
Examples
我们必须考虑实际的情况。
Wǒmen bìxū kǎolǜ shíjì de qíngkuàng.
We must consider the actual situation.
他没有任何实际的经验。
Tā méiyǒu rènhé shíjì de jīngyàn.
He doesn't have any practical experience.
这个计划缺少实际的意义。
Zhège jìhuà quēshǎo shíjì de yìyì.
This plan lacks practical significance.
Common mistakes
Confusing '实际' (shíjì) with '实在' (shízài). Use '实际' for 'actual/practical' (reality vs. theory), and '实在' for 'honest/dependable' or as an adverb meaning 'really/truly'.
Tip
If you want to say 'In reality' or 'Actually' at the start of a sentence, use '实际上' (shíjì shang) instead of '实际的'.
