Structure

Subject + 确实 + Verb / Adjective

How it works

"确实" (quèshí) is an adverb used to confirm that a situation is true or to emphasize that something is indeed the case. It often appears after the subject to acknowledge a fact, sometimes before a contrastive clause starting with "但是" or "不过".

Examples

这部电影确实很有意思,你应该去看看。

Zhè bù diànyǐng quèshí hěn yǒu yìsi, nǐ yīnggāi qù kànkan.

This movie is indeed very interesting; you should go see it.

他的汉语水平进步确实很快。

Tā de Hànyǔ shuǐpíng jìnbù quèshí hěn kuài.

His Chinese level has indeed improved very quickly.

北京的秋天确实很美,但是时间很短。

Běijīng de qiūtiān quèshí hěn měi, dànshì shíjiān hěn duǎn.

Autumn in Beijing is indeed beautiful, but it lasts a very short time.

Common mistakes

Placement error: Users sometimes place '确实' before the subject, but as an adverb, it typically follows the subject.

Tip

Think of '确实' as a way to say 'truly' or 'really' when you want to show agreement with a previous statement or a well-known fact.
