How it works
The word '通过' is used to indicate the method, means, or channel used to achieve a specific result. It can also function as a verb meaning 'to pass' an exam, a proposal, or a physical location.
Examples
通过努力学习，他的中文水平提高了很多。
Tōngguò nǔlì xuéxí, tā de Zhōngwén shuǐpíng tígāo le hěnduō.

Common mistakes
Confusing '通过' (means/method) with '经过' (process/passing of time). Use '通过' when emphasizing 'how' you did something.
Tip
When '通过' is at the beginning of a sentence, it often introduces the tool or bridge needed to reach the goal mentioned in the second half.
