JLPT N3
にとって
For (someone)
Structure
Noun にとって
How it works
This grammar point is used to express an opinion or judgment from the personal standpoint or perspective of a specific person or group. It indicates that the following statement is true 'for' or 'from the viewpoint of' that noun. It is often followed by adjectives like important, difficult, or necessary.
Examples
私にとって、家族が一番大切です。
For me, family is the most important thing.
漢字を覚えるのは、外国人学習者にとって難しいことです。
For foreign learners, memorizing Kanji is a difficult thing.
この経験は、将来のあなたにとっても役に立つはずです。

Common mistakes
Do not confuse 'にとって' with 'に対して' (towards/against); 'にとって' indicates a perspective or value judgment, while 'に対して' indicates a target or an action directed at someone.
Tip
If the sentence involves a subjective evaluation like 'important,' 'necessary,' or 'convenient,' 'にとって' is likely the correct choice.
