JLPT N5

~たことがある

Have done ~ before, experienced ~

Structure

Verb plain past (た-form) + ことがある

How it works

Used to state that one has previously had the experience of performing an action. It emphasizes prior experience rather than a recent event.

Examples

日本に行ったことがあります。

Common mistakes

Using the plain present form (e.g., 行くことがある) instead of the plain past (行ったことがある).

Tip

Think of it as 'the experience of having done X exists'.
