How it works

One loop, from a video to knowing where you stand

The same five steps whether you are studying alone or running a class. Only the last one differs.

  1. Step 1

    Bring real content

Paste a YouTube link or an article URL. It becomes a lesson you can read, in the language you are learning.

  2. Step 2

    Understand it in context

Tap any word for its reading and meaning — looked up against the sentence it sits in, not in isolation.

  3. Step 3

    Save what matters

Keep the words and grammar you want to own. Everything you already know stays out of the way.

  4. Step 4

    Review until it sticks

Saved items go into spaced repetition and come back to you on a schedule instead of all at once.

Step 5

See where you actually stand

Studying on your own

Your reading and review feed a progress view for the JLPT or HSK level you are aiming at, so preparation is something you can look at rather than guess about.

Teaching a class

The same lessons become assignments. You see who has done them, who has not, and which words the class keeps getting wrong.

See how it works

One worked example, for each way people use it

Both walkthroughs below are illustrations of the actual screens, using sample content. They are not customer accounts.

A learner, start to finish

One video, followed all the way through to a progress view.

  1. 1

    Bring in a video

    youtube.com/watch?v=…

The transcript becomes a lesson in Japanese.

  2. 2

Tap a word you do not know

    今日は新しい本を読みます。

あたらしいnew. Shown for this sentence, not as a list of every possible sense.

  3. 3

    Save it, skip the rest

新しいgoes to your vocabulary. Words you already know do not.

  4. 4

It comes back before you forget

Saved items enter spaced repetition and are scheduled rather than dumped on you in one sitting.

  5. 5

    Progress toward the exam

Coverage of the vocabulary, kanji and grammar for your target JLPT or HSK level fills in as you read and review.

Start with your own content

A teacher, start to finish

The same lesson, turned into homework and then into something you can act on.

  1. 1

    Make the lesson once

Import an article or video, or start from a worksheet you already use.

  2. 2

    Assign it to a class

Students join with a code. They do not need their own paid plan to do the work you set.

  3. 3

See where the class is stuck

    Sample data

    • Student 1Completed
    • Student 2In progress
    • Student 3Not started

Plus which words the class as a whole keeps getting wrong.

Do I need a card to try it?

No. A new account gets 14 days of Ultimate free, a teacher account gets 30 days, and neither asks for a card. When a trial ends you drop to Free rather than being charged.

Is “unlimited AI” really unlimited?

It is not, and we would rather say so. Every plan has a stated monthly allowance — the row above. They are set well above normal use and exist so one heavy account cannot run up the bill for everyone.

Do my students need to pay?

No. Students join a class with a code and do the work you set without a plan of their own. Seats are counted on the teacher's plan.

What 14 supported languages actually means

Every language gets the reader and the AI features. Exam tooling does not spread evenly, because it depends on the exam publishing a word list — so here is the boundary rather than a single tick.

  • Reader, word lookup and saved vocabulary

  • AI explanations, quizzes and photo text capture

    All 14 languages

  • Browsable grammar library

  • Exam study tools built on an official word list

JLPT, HSK and CEFR are the exams that publish one.

  • Exam level guides

DELE, DELF/DALF, Goethe-Zertifikat and TOPIK have level guides but no official word list to build study tools on.

Voice conversation is included on Ultimate and Teacher plans. We have not published per-language quality for it, so it is left off this table rather than claimed.
