JLPT N3

さらに

Furthermore; moreover; still more

Structure

さらに + Sentence / さらに + Noun / さらに + Adjective/Adverb

How it works

さらに is used to add more information, emphasize an increased degree, or indicate a continuation of a situation. It functions as an intensifier or a linking adverb.

Examples

雨がひどくなり、さらに風も強くなった。

The rain got worse, and furthermore, the wind also became stronger.

Common mistakes

Using it interchangeably with simple connective words like そして (and) when strong emphasis or a greater degree is not intended.

Tip

Think of it as 'even more' or 'in addition'.
