JLPT N3
どうやら
it seems; it appears; somehow
Structure
どうやら + Sentence (often with ようだ/らしい)
How it works
Used to express that the speaker has inferred something, usually based on indirect signs or vague information. It conveys a sense of 'it seems to be the case, but I'm not entirely sure'.
Examples
どうやら彼は来るらしい。
It seems he is coming.
Common mistakes
Using it for definite statements; 'どうやら' always implies a degree of uncertainty or inference.
Tip
'どうやら' is like saying 'from what I can gather...' before stating something uncertain.
