JLPT N3
~で有名
famous for
Structure
Noun (reason) + で有名
How it works
This structure explicitly states what a place, person, or thing is renowned or well-known for. The preceding noun specifies the reason for their fame.
Examples
この町は美しい花火大会で有名です。
This town is famous for its beautiful firework festival.
Common mistakes
Confusing it with '有名だ' which simply means 'famous'; '~で有名' specifies the 'what for'.
Tip
Think of 'で有名' as clearly listing the 'selling point' or the reason for renown.
