JLPT N2

Precisely because

Structure

Plain form

How it works

からこそ is used to emphasize that a specific reason is the primary or essential motivation for a result. It implies that while others might see the reason as a disadvantage or a reason not to do something, the speaker views it as the very reason for the action. It is often used to express strong conviction or a positive outcome born from difficulty.

Examples

Precisely because we are in difficult times, it is important to cooperate with each other.

I believe my current success exists precisely because I made the effort.

I am speaking harshly to you precisely because I am worried about you.

Common mistakes

Do not use からこそ for simple cause-and-effect relationships that lack emphasis (e.g., 'It's raining, so I'll take an umbrella' should use only から).

Tip

Think of this as saying 'especially because' or 'all the more because.' It is frequently used in formal speeches or heart-to-heart advice.
