Structure
Noun たる Noun

This formal grammar point is used to express the responsibilities, dignity, or expectations associated with a certain position or role. It is typically followed by a noun that represents an ideal behavior or status. It is much more literary and rigid than common expressions like 'として'.
Examples
教育者たるもの、常に学生の見本とならなければならない。
As an educator, one must always serve as a role model for students.
一国のリーダーたる者は、冷静な判断力が求められる。
A person who is the leader of a nation is required to have calm judgment.
プロの職人たるもの、道具の手入れを怠ってはいけない。

Common mistakes
Do not use 'たる' for everyday or casual roles; it is reserved for positions of high status, authority, or professional duty.
Tip
It is most frequently used in the pattern 'N1たるもの (N2)', where 'もの' functions as 'a person who is...'. Look for this pattern in reading sections.
