JLPT N2
~からなる
Consist of; be composed of
Structure
Noun + からなる
How it works
This grammar point is used to state what something is made up of or how it is composed, describing its constituent parts.
Examples
このグループは5人のメンバーからなる。
This group consists of five members.
Common mistakes
Using it for materials something is made *out of* (e.g., 木から作られている); it's for components or members.
Tip
Think of から (from) plus なる (to become); 'it becomes from' its components, thus 'it consists of'.
