JLPT N1
~ながらに
While ~; Just as ~ (it is)
Structure
Noun + ながらに / Verb ます-stem + ながらに
How it works
This grammar is used to express that something is done or exists while maintaining a specific state or condition from the beginning, without any change. It often conveys a sense of naturalness or existing as it was.
Examples
彼は涙ながらに故郷への思いを語った。
He spoke of his feelings for his hometown with tears in his eyes.
Common mistakes
Confusing it with simple 'ながら' for simultaneous actions, as 'ながらに' focuses on the continuous state or inherent nature.
Tip
Think of it as 'remaining in a certain state while something else happens'.
